About the course

Are you a healthcare professional (PT, PTA, OT, etc.) looking to branch out of clinical care and into healthcare strategy, innovation and entrepreneurship?  This 8-Week Certificate Program will advance your foundational knowledge of how to identify a market problem and build a solution and business plan to solve it.  

You will learn from Joseph Brence, PT, DPT, MBA, FAAOMPT who spent the past decade branching outside of clinical care, focused on clinical innovation and business strategy.  Dr. Brence is currently employed as the Head of Clinical Strategy at MedBridge and professor at NYU, teaching Entrepreneurship, Strategic Management and Information Technology.

Practical approach

Our training is designed to provide you with the foundational concepts of identifying a market opportunity and turning it into a viable business and solution.  Whether you are looking to open your first clinic or build a new technical solution, this course is for you.

Weekly Live Sessions

Meet with your instructor and classmates on a weekly basis to review didactic content, practice your company pitch and receive constructive feedback on your idea.  You will additionally gain access to a discussion forum to interact with your classmates and share ideas. 

Pitch Your Idea

You will have the ability to practice your pitch of your newly developed product or service.   We model the "investor pitch" experience to prepare you to take your concept outside of this program and make it a reality!  

Course Lessons

Each week, you will be provided with written materials to review in preparation of the live session.  During the live session, you will be taught relevant didactic material and discuss the development of your business venture.  Following the live session, you will complete an assignment that will go towards your business plan and final investor pitch.  

All live sessions are on Wednesday from 8:30pm-10pm EST.

Dr. Brence, PT, DPT, MBA, FAAOMPT, DAC, is an energetic healthcare innovator and leader with a demonstrated track record of clinical excellence, specifically focusing on strategies to transform the delivery of post-acute care. Dr. Brence is currently employed by MedBridge as the Head of Clinical Strategy and a Senior Lecturer  at NYU’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service.  Prior to this role, he has spent the past decade in post-acute innovation, strategy and educational roles.   Dr. Brence is an equity partner at the Nxt Gen Institute of Physical Therapy and sits on the advisory board for the Rangos School of Health Sciences at Duquesne University.   He previously sat on the editorial board of the APTA and was a national spokesperson for the Choose PT campaign.
